On to Mirfield

After a much needed coffee we left Aspley at 12.50 pm and started walking the 4 1/2 miles of the Huddersfield Broad Canal.

At Turnbridge is an interesting bridge known as the Locomotive bridge due to its resemblance to an engine, I couldn’t see that though but it is an intricate work of engineering.

Once again we were walking through industrial areas and on a bend of the canal we passed a huge waste incinerator plant.

Finally at 2.04 pm having walked the length of the Colne valley we reached the point where the River Colne flows into the River Calder (fittingly through a pipe!) at Cooper Bridge Mirfield.

This was also the End of the Canal and the end of the walk. We had,in 3 days walked 42 miles through 3 counties …. from Manchester to Mirfield.

There was now only one thing left to do …………..

Finished!
